Middleware Conference 2024
In the first week of December, Laura Lawniczak and Maximilian Seidler attended the Middleware conference in Hong Kong.
Maximilian, together with Kilian Müller from LITES, presented their paper NimbleNet: Serverless Computing for the Extreme Edge in Factory Environments at the WoSC workshop. Laura presented her paper Targeting Tail Latency in Replicated Systems with Proactive Rejection at the main conference.
The organizers of Middleware spared no expense or effort this year and gave us an unforgettable time in Hong Kong. Even if the scheduling was not always perfect, the culinary offerings in particular were hard to beat (all in terms of taste, variety as well as quantity), and Hong Kong also showed its best side with a pleasant 23 degrees and full of Christmas spirit!
Finally, we would like to congratulate Christian Berger, who will be joining our chair as a postdoc in January, on winning the Best Paper Runner-up award for his paper Chasing Lightspeed Consensus: Fast Wide-Area Byzantine Replication with Mercury.
