On June 14, Dustin Nguyen presented the research paper Back to the Core-Memory Age: Running Operating Systems in NVRAM only on the 36th GI/ITG International Conference on Architecture of Computing Systems (ARCS 2023) in Athens. For this work, the operating systems Linux and FreeBSD were adapted to run purely in non-volatile memory (NVRAM) and then investigated in terms of performance and power consumption. This was done in the context of the PAVE and NEON, which are a collaboration with the BOSS of the RUB as well as the Chair of Distributed systems / operating systems of the BTU.
