Participation in the DARE 2025 Summer School
During the week of September 8–12, our employees Harald Böhm and Paul Bergmann took part in the 3rd ACM Europe Summer School on Distributed and Replicated Environments (DARE 2025) in Lisbon, Portugal.
The program included exciting lectures on topics such as conflict-free replicated data types (CRDTs), testing distributed systems, programming languages, and consistency properties. In addition, the summer school offered ample opportunity to exchange ideas with doctoral students and students from all over the world. This made the week an ideal opportunity to make new contacts and broaden one’s scientific perspectives.
The social program was also well organized: the excellent catering kept everyone in good spirits, and the desserts (especially the Doce da Casa) left a lasting impression and are now on the list of recipes to try at home. Afterwards, there was still time to explore the city. Unsurprisingly, Lisbon presented itself as an extremely hilly metropolis with a cuisine that was as varied as it was delicious.https://sys.cs.fau.de/wp-admin/revision.php?revision=9230
The poster session was a particular cause for celebration: alongside Dario d’Abate (Politecnico di Milano), Harald received the Best Poster Award for his poster “BFTeam: Towards Practical Intermittent Byzantine Fault Tolerance.”
All in all, the summer school was a valuable opportunity for Harald to receive feedback on his dissertation topic, while Paul gained exciting insights into current research questions at the start of his doctorate.
