Attending EuroSys 2026 in Edinburgh

From 27 April 2026 to 30 April 2026, the EuroSys conference, together with numerous workshops, took place in Edinburgh.

This year, our chair was represented with two contributions:

  • Christian Berger had an accepted paper at the conference that resulted from a joint research collaboration with the University of Stavanger and Reykjavík University. The paper, “OptiLog: Assigning Roles in Byzantine Consensus” by Hanish Gogada, Christian Berger, Leander Jehl, Hans P. Reiser, and Hein Meling, was presented in the “Distributed Consensus, Blockchain & Storage” session. The work introduces OptiLog, a distributed logging and monitoring framework that replicates measurements in BFT systems, derives consistent role assignments and configurations from them, and thereby enables low latency even in the presence of faulty or slow replicas.
  • Paul Bergmann gave a talk on his current research at the PaPoC workshop, titled “Towards Practical Directed-Acyclic-Graph-Based Byzantine Fault-Tolerant State-Machine Replication.” In his talk, he addressed the question of which practical problems DAG-based BFT algorithms need to solve in order to maintain their high performance when used for state-machine replication.
